Why this blog?

Chronology
About 5 years ago I was diagnosed with an auto-immune condition called Lichen Sclerosus. Maybe a 5 % of all people suffering with LS,  end up having a vary rare type of cancer. Two months ago I was diagnosed with SCC (Squamous Cell Carcinoma) of the Vulva, I was in that small percentage....
SCC is the slow growing but persistent kind of cancer, there are a number of other different types of neoplasms that can affect the vulvar area, some more aggressive than others.

Two years ago I had an area on my left side minor labia that did not heal, I consulted with the doctor and was treated as a "flair up" continued using the steroidal cream. Around the same time, I had some glands under my arm that where painful and inflamed, we explored that, but nothing conclusive was found.

Because of LS, and with the passing of time, the anatomy of my vulva changed, and the clitoral area became fused asi is common with LS patients.
When the anterior part of my vulva became fused, it formed a small vestibule, and the growth started on the inside of the fused skin and on the left side where it did not heal. I did not noticed the growth under the fused area, but kept trying to heal the left side area .... Then I started to have a bit of pain while siting down for long times... and realized that this was growing. One incident that is important to knot is that I had a food poisoning with a poisonous mushroom last November, and that could have increased the risk in developing any kind of cancer.

I had a biopsy done on the 13 of May day of Our Lady of Fatima, on that day, there wasn't turning back, the fight started. The Friday of the same week the Dr called and told me the biopsy on the left side was positive for SCC and that she was referring me to a Gyno Oncologist.
I am making this blog to keep all my family and friends, informed of the last news, my thoughts, and my feelings, in order to raise awareness of this silent disease that affects a large group of anonymous women, and maybe help other women in early detecting this kind of cancer.
I also want to use this opportunity to let others know about my vision for this infirmity and how I am dealing with through my eyes of faith and trust in God, through regular medical practices, and self healing with alternative therapies, and through prayer.
The surgery to remove the tumor and the sentinel glands ( to explore if the lymphatic system is compromised) of both my inguinal area is scheduled for July 17 at 1 pm. The day after the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Please keep me and my family in your prayers.
And bare with me, while I share small posts with updates and with my insights and thoughts, prayers and struggles in bearing this cross...
love and prayers
Ina
